News Release - November 14, 2018
Signal AI won the inaugural Fujitsu AI Pioneer of the Year Award at the 2018 Lloyds Bank National Business Awards presented last night at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
The Fujitsu AI Pioneer of the Year Award was introduced in 2018 to acknowledge and reward businesses paving the way in artificial intelligence innovation ensuring the UK remains at the forefront of the technology’s evolution and adoption.
Fujitsu Chair and National Business Awards judge Dr David Snelling said: “I am delighted to be involved in judging the inaugural Fujitsu AI Pioneer of the Year category at the National Business Awards. This year confirmed for me that the UK and Ireland is a fertile landscape for planting and growing AI based businesses, using it to solve real challenges. All the finalists had strong business models and sound technology, with several very outstanding. With a vibrant mix of entrants coming to a final decision was difficult, but I have been excited to see how all finalists this year have pushed the boundaries to seek potential of what emerging technologies can bring.”
Signal takes a customer-centric, research-led approach to solving real business problems using AI. The research team develops and deploys machine learning, text mining, natural language processing and information retrieval techniques to process large-scale content and datasets. Accepting the award, Signal’s Co-founder and Chief Data Scientist Dr Miguel Martinez said: “It’s great to be recognised in the area of artificial intelligence, which is paving the way in the UK and the world. Winning the award means recognition for all of the work we have done since we started back in 2013 to push the boundaries of AI’s capabilities as far as we can.”
This is the second year in a row that Signal’s contribution to UK business has been recognised with a Lloyds Bank National Business Award having won in the category of New Business of the Year in 2017. This year’s winners were announced at an awards dinner at The Grosvenor House Hotel attended by over 1,200 business leaders, entrepreneurs, politicians and journalists to celebrate the creme de la creme of British business.
